So they are completely harmless and will happily let you join them on a swim.
As the largest fish in the sea, reaching lengths of 40 feet or more, whale sharks have an enormous menu from which to choose. Fortunately for most sea-dwellers—and us!—their favorite meal is plankton. They scoop these tiny plants and animals up, along with any small fish that happen to be around, with their colossal gaping mouths while swimming close to the water's surface.Preferring warm waters, whale sharks populate all tropical seas. They are known to migrate every spring to the continental shelf of the central west coast of Australia.

Although massive, whale sharks are docile fish and sometimes allow swimmers to hitch a ride. They are currently listed as a vulnerable species; however, they continue to be hunted in parts of Asia, such as the Philippines.

ALSO VISIT CHICHEN ITZA While in Cancun Mexico, take a dive into the culture with a day trip to the largest and most notable Mayan archaeological site in Yucatan – Chichén Itzá.  This ancient wonder will amaze you. The ruins will give you an insight of the Mayan way of life in the ancient times. The focal point of this trip to the Mayan site is the pyramid-shaped El Castillo, which was used by the Mayans once as a place of worship.

CANCUN'S UNDERWATER MUSEUMOne of the most awesome sights someone could witness Manchones Reef has an amazing 477 sculptures Punta Nizuc close by has another 23 structures. So, a total of 500 statues and sculptures can be witnessed in a suspended animation beneath the surface of water. The museum has plans to create ten such areas totaling over 1, 200 structures.  It's definitely worth coming back year after year to visit!
